When a loved one faces a serious illness like cancer, chemotherapy and other medical treatments can help save their lives. To get these drugs to patients is of course a long and winding road, involving years of clinical research and scientific studies. Yet we rarely think of the hard work put in by clinical researchers, who conduct thousands of studies each year to better understand the most complex diseases in order to prevent, diagnose, and treat them.
Now, with the rise of big data, clinical researchers’ jobs have become increasingly challenging. They must collect, unify, and analyze not just the participant data collected in their studies, but also multimodal data from electronic health records, genetic sequencing, imaging, and more.
That’s why we are proud to announce our new investment in Manifold, a company that leverages AI to make it 10X faster for clinical researchers to do their jobs. From one unified platform, research teams can engage study participants, find and analyze disparate data, and collaborate securely across organizations. As a result, clinical researchers reduce the time it takes to derive insights from data from months to minutes.
We were first introduced to two of Manifold’s founders Vinay Seth Mohta and Vivek Mohta by a fellow Calibrate founder, who had studied with them at MIT decades ago. The Manifold founding team – which also includes Sourav Dey and Rajendra Kuppola – brings decades of experience in enterprise software, healthcare, research, and AI. Together, they are building a human-centered company that’s changing lives. When they demoed the platform for us, we were impressed with what they had designed: something technically complex yet simple to use. Manifold makes clinical researchers day-to-day jobs so much easier–ultimately getting lifesaving treatments into the hands of patients faster.
Customers such as Winship Cancer Institute of Emory University and the Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Comprehensive Cancer Center are already using Manifold to improve their research workflows. One organization unified over 11 terabytes of multimodal data – which spans 1.5 million participants – into Manifold’s platform to streamline studies and increase research velocity and output.
Our entire team at Calibrate is thrilled to support the Manifold team on their mission to transform clinical research and to help people live healthier, happier lives.
